Chapter-25,-Verses-63-–-76,-Part-2.jpgWhen the news of salvation via repentance was revealed it was considered a great blessing by the new Muslims.  Very few had been free from sin and vice during their time before the revelation of Islam and this general amnesty filled them with hope.  God is merciful and compassionate and does not rebuke a person for past errors.  Many instances of people who reformed their lives by repenting to God are reported in the authentic traditions of Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him.
An old man came to Prophet Muhammad and said, "All my life has passed in sin, there is no sin which I have not committed; so much so that if my sins were to be distributed over the people of the whole world, they would all be doomed.  Is there any way out for my forgiveness?" The Prophet asked him, "Have you embraced Islam?" He said, "I bear witness that there is no true deity except God, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God".  The Prophet then said, "Go back, God is All-Forgiving and has the power to change your evil deeds into good deeds."[1]  The one who embraces Islam has the slate wiped clean and believers who repent have the chance to begin afresh.
Good deeds can obliterate bad deeds and repentance gives the sinner another chance.  To emphasize this God said, "except for those who repent, believe and do righteous deeds.  For them God will change their sins into good deeds." (Quran 25:70) and Prophet Muhammad reinforced the meaning behind those words when he said, "God extends His hand at night to forgive those who sinned during that day, and He extends His hand during the day to forgive those who sinned during the night.  This will continue to be the case until the Sun rises from the west." Seeking repentance therefore, is another characteristic of the true believer.   God is All-forgiving and thus the one who sincerely repents will find that he is forgiven.
Believers do not testify to falsehood.  They do not lie, they do not give false evidence and they do not conceal the truth.  Islam calls all these things sinful.  Prophet Muhammad likened false testimony to ascribing partners with God[2] and the Quran further tells us to, "…shun the abomination of idols and shun all false statements." (Quran 22:30) In addition to this, in the Book of Zechariah, included in both the Torah and the Christian Bible, we find the words, "These are the things you are to do, speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts…"[3]
The same people who do not give false testimony avoid ill speech and stay away from frivolity.  If they happen to come across sinful, useless vain behaviour they pass by with dignity.   They do not stay to engage in the behaviour, or argue about it; they walk away.  God expects believers to distract themselves from the evils associated with vain frivolous behaviour and one way to do this is to remember the greatness of God and to contemplate His signs in the world around us.  When believers are reminded of God the prompt does not fall upon deaf ears, they are grateful and turn towards God eagerly.  They do not deliberately close their eyes to the signs of God instead they are deeply moved by them.
Believers ask God to grant them righteous offspring who will worship God alone and not associate any partners with Him.  They supplicate for wives and children that will be a comfort to them.  They ask God to assure that their families follow a path of righteousness.  In addition to this the believer aspires to reach a level of righteousness that others will wish to emulate.  It is worth remembering that at the time of revelation many of the families of the first Muslims had not yet embraced Islam.  Prayers and supplications concerned with the afterlife of their families were upmost in the minds of the companions of Prophet Muhammad.
Life, in many ways is much the same today.  Often a person embraces Islam and begins to fret about the eternal outcome for their loved ones.  Here we can see that a sign of a true believer is their deep concern that their loved ones too worship God alone.  A believer hopes to be the one who inspires others to follow the right path, especially their families and loved ones.
The believers, the ones that have been described in these articles and the ones who strive to be like those described, will be rewarded.  They will be granted their place in Paradise because of their patience and steadfastness.   Many translations of the Quran, especially the more archaic translations call the reward a lofty palace, a description that calls to mind grandeur.   Some scholars say that it the highest place in Paradise, the one reserved for the most pious and righteous believers.  Certainly the believers are rewarded magnificently with a safe, happy and eternal dwelling place and are greeted with words of peace.
Paradise is a place of eternal security and satisfaction.  All sense of injury and pain are removed and God tells us in more than one place in the Quran that the dwellers of Paradise, the true believers, will be greeted by angels.  They will say, "…Peace be upon you.  You have done well, so enter here to abide therein." (Quran 39:73) They will also say, "…This is Paradise, which you have inherited because of your good deeds."(Quran 7:43)
The characteristics of a true believer have been listed here in theses essential verses from the Quran.  It is thought-provoking to note that the characteristics of the non-believers have been left for us to detect for ourselves.  They might be the opposite characteristics, the one who is proud, who does not pray at night, the one who argues or lies or a combination of any or all those things mentioned, however as God states, truth stands out clearly from falsehood[4]especially to the one who is determined to please God.

Islam and Muslims

The Arabic word ‘Islam’ means ‘submission’, and is derived from a word meaning ‘peace’.  As such, the religion of Islam teaches that in order to achieve true peace of mind and surety of heart, one must submit to God and live according to His Divinely revealed Law.
Islam is not a new religion because ‘submission to the will of God’, i.e. Islam, has always been the only acceptable religion in the sight of God.  For this reason, Islam is the true ‘natural religion’, and it is the same eternal message revealed through the ages to all of God’s prophets and messengers.  The main message of all the prophets has always been that there is only One True God and He alone is to be worshipped.  These prophets start with Adam and include Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, John the Baptist, and Jesus, peace be upon them all.  God says in the Holy Quran:
“We did not send before you (O Muhammad) any messenger but We revealed to him: ‘none has the right to be worshipped except I, therefore worship Me.’” (Quran 21:25)
http://www.islamreligion.com/articles/images/How_to_Convert_to_Islam_and_Become_a_Muslim_001.jpgHowever, the true message of these prophets was either lost or got corrupted over time.  Even the most recent books, the Torah and the Gospel were adulterated and hence they lost their credibility to guide the people to the right path.  Therefore 600 years after Jesus, God revived the lost message of previous prophets by sending the Prophet Muhammad with His final revelation, the Holy Quran, to all of mankind.  Since the Prophet Muhammad was the final prophet, God Himself has promised to preserve His last revealed words so that it is a source of guidance for all humanity till the Last Day.  It is now imperative for everyone to believe and follow this final message from God.  God Almighty says in the Quran:
“We have not sent you (O Muhammad) but to all mankind as a giver of good news and as a warner, but most people do not know.” (Quran 34:28)
“Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” (Quran 3:85)
The word “Muslim” means one who submits to the will of God, regardless of his/her race, nationality or ethnic background.  Hence, any person who is ready to submit to the will of God is eligible to become a Muslim.

Benefits of Converting to Islam

There are many benefits of converting to Islam.  Some of them are:
•      One forms a personal and direct relationship with God by worshipping Him alone, without the need of intermediaries.  One feels this personal relationship and is aware that God knows everything and is there to assist him/her.
•      A person realizes the true purpose of his or her life, which is to recognize God and follow His commandments.
•      A person is provided with a light, which guides him/her through life.  The religion of Islam has answers to all situations, and one will always know the right steps to take in all aspects of life.
•      One finds true happiness, tranquility, and inner peace.
•      Upon converting to Islam, all of one’s previous sins are forgiven, and one starts a new life of piety and righteousness.  And as a Muslim, when one makes a mistake thereafter, he/she can always repent to God who forgives the sins of those who repent to Him sincerely.  There are no intermediaries or created beings to make confessions to.
•      One achieves salvation from Hellfire, which all prophets have warned against.
•      The greatest benefit is that a Muslim is promised by God the reward of eternal Paradise (Heaven).  Those who are blessed with Paradise, will live eternally in bliss without any sort of sickness, pain or sadness.  God will be pleased with them and they will be pleased with Him.  Even the lowest in rank among the dwellers of Paradise will have ten times the like of this world, and they will have whatever they desire.  In fact, in Paradise there are pleasures that no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, and no mind has ever thought of.  It will be a very real life, not spiritual only, but physical as well.

How to Convert to Islam - The Testimony of Faith (Shahada)

Becoming a Muslim is a simple and easy process.  All that a person has to do is to say a sentence called the Testimony of Faith (Shahada), which is pronounced as:
I testify “La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasoolu Allah.
These Arabic words mean, “There is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God.”  Once a person says the Testimony of Faith (Shahada) with conviction and understanding its meaning, then he/she has become a Muslim.
The first part, “There is no true deity but God,” means that none has the right to be worshipped but God alone, and that God has neither partner nor son.  The second part means that Muhammad was a true Prophet sent by God to humankind.
To be a Muslim, one should also:
- Believe that the Holy Quran is the literal word of God, revealed by Him.
- Believe that the Judgment Day (Resurrection Day) is true and will come.
- Believe in the prophets that God sent and the books He revealed, and in His angels.
- Accept Islam as his/her religion.
- Not worship anything nor anyone except God.
It is that easy!  To hear the Testimony (Shahada), click hereor click on “Live Help” for immediate assistance by chat.

Some Common Misconceptions

Some people may postpone their conversion to Islam, though they believe it to be the true religion of God, due to some misconceptions.  They may think that things like changing their name, knowing some Arabic, informing others of their conversion, knowing some Muslims, or not having committed many sins, are conditions for conversion – however the reality is that none of these are valid excuses for delaying the conversion.
If you would like to learn more about these and other similar misconceptions, please read the article, “I want to be a Muslim but... Myths about Converting to Islam (3 parts)”.

For Those Not Yet Convinced

Islam claims to be the true way to God.  What makes one religion valid over other ideologies is the proofs it offers for its truthfulness.  Hence, one needs to look at these proofs, weight them and take an informed decision.  One needs to be sincere in one’s endeavour and above all seek the help of the Almighty to guide him/her to the right path.
If a person is still not convinced of the truthfulness of Islam, then he/she can further look at the proofs Islam offers.  Islam offers overwhelming proofs of its truthfulness and is the only religion that completely appeals to common sense.
Some of the proofs Islam offers are: the scientific proofs in the Quran, the miracles performed by the Prophet Muhammad and the prophesies of his coming in previous scriptures, the foretold events mentioned in the Quran that later came to pass, the unmet challenge of the Quran to bring even a chapter like it, and the divine wisdom in the laws and teachings of Islam that cover all aspects of life.  To learn more about the proofs of Islam, please check the articles under this section, “Evidence Islam is Truth”.
If you would like to learn more about Islam and its fundamental beliefs and practices, then please refer to the article “What is Islam? (4 parts)”.
Our everlasting life in the Hereafter depends on what faith we choose to follow in this transient life, hence let us give this struggle the priority it deserves.

Free Speech or Provocation

FREE SPEECH OR PROVOCATION

FREE SPEECH OR PROVOCATION

IT IS's possible you'd never heard of Pamela Geller before Sunday night's tragic attack in Garland, Texas. You might think she's taking a brave stand for free speech, for American values, and that by supporting her, you're supporting America.
I'm here to disabuse you of that notion. While Geller claims to stand for American values, much of what she does undermines our values.
I am Muslim, and after attacks like these, folks always ask, "Do you condemn terrorism?" Or they throw up their hands and say, "Where are the Muslims!" Well, to be blunt: Not at the event. In fact, every major mosque in the Garland, Texas, area not only shrugged off the anti-Islam event happening in their backyard, but also declined to exercise their equal right to peacefully protest it.Sunday night, two gunmen opened fireoutside an anti-Muslim event in Texas, and were quickly shot dead. Security prevented what could have been a far greater tragedy, and I am thankful for that, and for those authorities who put their lives on the line to protect our freedom of speech. But this isn't only about free speech — which, it should go without saying -- is a right for all Americans. It's also about how some people use freedom of speech to subvert other American values.
It appears from early reports that the suspects were not currently involved with a mosque. This is because American Muslims -- our mosques and our leadership -- reject radicalism out of hand.
There's a reason ISIS uses the Internet to propagandize. Jihadists won't gain traction in American mosques.
Why are images of the Prophet Mohammed so offensive?
Why are images of the Prophet Mohammed so offensive? 02:21

So why did Geller claim that the attackers represent large numbers of American Muslims — as she puts it, "your everyday, run of the mill moderates praising mind-numbing savagery" — although her only evidence for that are a few Twitter accounts linked to ISIS, one of which may have belonged to one of the attackers, and none of which represent any American Muslims?
It's not as though Geller ever lets facts get in the way of a good opportunity: After the attack, she didn't call for dialogue, for understanding, for bringing people together, which is what real leaders do.
Instead, she went on Fox news and called it a war. And that appears to be what she wants. That's why she's dangerous, not brave. She's not celebrating hate speech for the sake of free speech, but to provoke reactions that polarize America, set people at odds, and alienate Muslims, who are American citizens and often first in line to report planned terrorist attacks. (American Muslims are allies, not enemies.)
And plenty of people know this, not just American Muslims, who might be presumed to be partial.
Anders Breivik, the Norwegian who killed dozens of fellow Norwegians and published a long, rambling screed justifying his murderousness, cited Geller repeatedly to justify his terrorist actions. The UK's conservative, right-wing government even banned her from the kingdom (along with her colleague Robert Spencer). Because they know what the Southern Poverty Law Center knows: She's using one democratic value to subvert other democratic values.
Democracy requires free speech, but it also requires individual responsibility. That's at the heart of what makes this country work. So what happens when they clash? What happens when a person uses free speech to stigmatize an entire people? Even though American Muslims condemn terrorism, it's unfair to be expected to. Collective responsibility? Guilty until proven innocent? That's what it means to ask us all to condemn actions, when we have nothing to do with those actions.

There are other American values, too, which deserve mentioning: Exercising your freedoms with responsibility. Yes, we have the right to say things, even offensive things. But should we? Should we act with no consideration of the consequences? Should Geller have hosted an event she knew would draw a violent reaction? Should she put up advertisements in New York with the beneath-contempt claim that killing Jews is obligatory for Muslims?
Note, too, how Muslims responded: With levity and humor. But maybe making this about Islam prevents people from seeing the bigger picture here, the reason American Muslims are rightly and justifiably offended by Gellar and her ilk: Should white activists line up to drop the n-word "to support American values" of free speech? Or perhaps march into Ferguson, Missouri, or Baltimore waving Confederate flags? You have every right to. But should you?
And should you be surprised if a few people react violently, even if that violence is unacceptable? (Which it is.) What if you kept doing it, over and over again? For what possible reason would you want to?
